100 Good Wishes Quilt

MJ and I have decided that we would like to have a special quilt made for Meghan. The 100 Good Wishes Quilt (Bai Jia Bei) is a Chinese custom where friends and family give a piece of cloth along with a wish to the baby. This quilt is a tradition that is common in northern China and it gives family and friends a way to help welcome and celebrate the baby's new life. A patch of the cloth goes into the baby's quilt and the other part of the cloth goes into a memory book with the wish that was written for the child. According to the custom, the quilt contains the wishes from friends and family, luck, and energy. It is something that will become a keepsake for the child and passed down from generation to generation.

MJ and I started a fabric swap with some of the people from our agency. We would like our friends and family to contribute to the squares of fabric and wishes that we have already recieved. If you would like to send a wish and some fabric, you may send two 8x8 inch squares of fabric (your choice) and a wish on a small card or index card with a piece of the fabric you chose on it. Typically a quilt calls for 6x6 inch squares, but we are requesting 8x8 inch squares in case a mistake is made. I or my mom will cut them to size when we get ready to make the quilt. Contact us if you would like more information!
