Meghan's first Christmas was a blast. My parents and brother spent it with us and we had a good time. Meghan was a little trooper despite her cold, which was bothersome for her. She never really showed any interest in the Christmas tree, but once we started opening presents, she joined in the fun.
We had a nice Christmas Eve. My mom and I went to visit her friend, Lizzie before Christmas Eve mass to exchange gifts and meet Lizzie's mom's parents. After a short visit we all went to church and then said our goodbyes. My family went out to eat for Christmas Eve, which has become our tradition sometime over the past several years. We went to Kirby's Steakhouse which was really good. Meghan crashed on us during dinner, but she hung in there for as long as she could. After we got home, we put her down for the night while the rest of us waited for Santa to visit. MJ, my brother, and dad had fun "playing" Santa while my mom and I decorated cookies for Santa to eat. We all nibbled on some and left a couple of half-eaten ones on the plate!
Christmas morning started off slow. Of course, Meghan had no idea about this whole "Santa" thing, so she was not pressuring us to get up for that. She was up early because she was hungry. MJ and I went ahead and had my parents feed her while we got dressed. After breakfast we started the Christmas Day festivities. Meghan had a blast helping to unwrap her presents. She did stop several times to check out the new toys she had gotten from Santa and the rest of us. Meghan finally crashed at about 11ish. When she got tired, she put her head down on my lap. She let us know that she was done with Christmas. Meghan took a nice 2 hour nap. Then we dressed her and headed over to one of MJ's friend's house to view her Snow Village display. It was very impressive. We hope to make that a tradition for Meghan every year. After visiting with his friends, we went home to have a nice Christmas Day dinner. We had ham and turkey with garlic potatoes and cornbread dressing (my favorite, it was from this store in Louisiana where my parents live). It was a very tasty dinner. Then we snacked on cookies and stuff for dessert.
I have to say that Meghan had a great Christmas and I am sure that next year will be even better because she will be able to understand the holiday more and the traditions that we plan to keep and pass on to her. Meghan is slowly starting to play with all the gifts she recieved, now that she is not as overwhelmed by them all. They are still under the tree, waiting for her to discover them, which she will in her own time. She is still working on trying to walk and that seems to take precedence over everything. Meghan has also started saying another new word, "Duck". She says every syllable clearly and really drags the sounds out. It is cute to hear her talk.
We hope everyone who follows our blog had a wonderful Christmas and as always, we are always thinking about all of you. Thankyou for sharing in our journey together as a family!
