I also wanted to update all of you on Echo. She went to the vet this past Friday and I am happy to announce that she had a really good checkup. As you know, she has hypercardiomyopia. Her heart rate is still elevated and of course it gets worse when we go to the vet, but while we were there it started to come down some. Which is good. Usually when we are here at home it ranges between 120-124 beats per minute at rest. It should be around 100 at rest. The vet checked her pulse in both of her hind legs and it was excellent. Cats who have heart problems, will have clots in their hind legs which is why he checks them. He also checked her gums which could also show signs of heart failure. They were pink and when pressed the color came right back to them. Another good sign that her circulatory system is doing well. She still has a slight murmur. He also checked her lungs for congestion and they are sounding clear. Our vet wants to do another cardiogram on her heart, but he said since she is doing so well, we can put it off until the summer. We were pleased to hear this because we were worried that we would have to do it soon and if there are any significant changes since the one she had last year, she would have to go on heart meds. This means that once she starts taking them, she will need them everyday, which could be a problem when we travel. She may or may not come out for our cat sitter. Right now she is taking a baby aspirin every 4 days and if it gets missed, it is no biggie. She takes the aspirin to help reduce her chances of having a stroke or a clot. So, we were really happy with her checkup and hope she will have many more years with us. Like I told MJ, she was the runt of her litter and she is a very strong willed kitty. Hopefully she will continue to be a punk and make us laugh for many years to come!

Happy Easter
Happy Easter! MJ and I are enjoying a quiet one. The Easter Bunny brought MJ and the cats some goodies. I know it has been a while since the last post. I think the stork came, but it was a quiet landing. Rumor has it that the CCAA only completed 2 days worth of referrals and other rumors say that they matched 6 days. But, the majority of rumors point to only 2 days of referrals. I have tried to call our agency, but I was unable to reach them on Friday to confirm any of these rumors. We will try calling tomorrow and hopefully will have some news by Monday or Tuesday. We are still holding out hope for some good news. If we have to wait another month, that is ok. We were a tad disappointed by the rumors, but we are keeping a postitive outlook and know that sometime very soon we will recieve a referral. We have some projects to keep us busy. We will keep you posted! Keep your fingers crossed for us!
